Emerging from the Haight Ashbury San Francisco counterculture of the 1960's, the Grateful Dead became one of the most enduring and endearing bands of the Rock & Roll era. Jerry Garcia was a melting pot of American music, and as leader of the Dead, the group would become an iconic institution.
