TOUR MEMORY: The Pyramid, Memphis, 4-2-95
I feel blessed I had the chance to catch the southern leg of Spring Tour 1995. No one knew, but it would be Jerry's last go around. One of the classic moments happened in Memphis when they played Memphis Blues into a totally Jerrified Tennessee Jed. The geographical irony was not lost on the packed house at the Pyramid that night. The Unbroken Chain encore put it all into perspective |

TOUR MEMORY: Of all the venues the Dead played, Winterland is the haunt that holds the most special memories for me. Located in an unglamorous part of San Francisco, it was an old hockey rink, a brokedown palace to be sure. On the day I got my first Dead album, I saw my first show. They played all the tunes I had played all day on my hi-fi, including my favorite, Cream Puff War.

TOUR MEMORY: Outdoor shows were always the best, a chance to discover the wonders of nature and the wonders of music all in one fell swoop. There are so many references to mother earth, especially flowers in the Dead landscape. There's roses, American beauties, and of course magnolias. On this night, when they played Sugar Magnolia, the Blossom was bloomin' like a red rose. |

TOUR MEMORY: It was always a treat when Brent took over the vocals, because that's what he did, take them over. We were blown away when they opened the show with Hey Pocky Way, with Brent wailing away. Late in the first set during Greatest Story, they stunned us again when Brent went into Devil with the Blue Dress and Good Golly Miss Molly. It's too bad this incredible energy couldn't go on forever. |

TOUR MEMORY: This Boston show had that high energy Saturday night vibe right out of the box, starting with the first thunderous power-chord of Bucket. The 2nd set had a continuous musical flow. The segues were perfect, especially Space into an ultra-trippy Other One with Vince mixing up the medicine on keyboards. It was apropos when they blazed through One More Saturday Night, the theme of the whole show. |

TOUR MEMORY: There are moments in Dead shows that actually produce a physical reaction, like a shiver down the spine. This one had one. During Stella Blue, Phil dropped an earth shattering bomb followed by Jerry singing "…let it shine" in his most soulful, desperate voice. Every one just looked at each other in total awe and disbelief. This was the most powerful moment I've ever experienced at any concert. |
